London, UK – Renowned for his deceptive leg-spin and cunning googlies, Rashid Khan has long been celebrated as one of world cricket’s premier bowlers. However, the Afghan superstar has increasingly showcased his prowess with the bat, proving his mettle as a high-quality lower-order batter capable of delivering quickfire, impactful knocks. A recent “outrageous” shot from the ongoing The Hundred tournament, where he is playing for Oval Invincibles, has taken social media by storm, highlighting his unique range of shots.
The Viral Six and Batting Impact
In a captivating moment during Oval Invincibles’ match against Birmingham Phoenix, Rashid Khan stunned former New Zealand pacer Tim Southee with an audacious six. Displaying incredible anticipation, Rashid shuffled across his stumps even before Southee delivered the ball. As the right-arm quick aimed a fuller delivery onto his pads, Rashid nonchalantly flicked it over the deep square leg boundary for a flat, six-run maximum. The video of this extraordinary shot, shared by The Hundred on social media, quickly went viral, drawing comments like “Unbelievable shot” and “Outrageous” from captivated fans.
Rashid’s brief but impactful innings saw him score 16 runs off just 9 balls, including two sixes, contributing to Oval Invincibles’ competitive total of 180 for 8 in their allotted 100 balls. Despite his heroics, Birmingham Phoenix ultimately won the contest by 4 wickets.
Overcoming Injury and IPL Struggles
Rashid Khan’s current form is particularly significant given his recent struggles. He recently revealed that his performance suffered after he made a premature return to cricket just a few months following a back surgery, which he underwent after the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. In a candid admission, the spinner explained that in his desperation to perform well for Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, he “over-exerted” himself in training, feeling he was “letting his team down.”
The IPL 2025 season indeed marked Rashid’s toughest outing in the league. He managed to take only nine wickets in 15 matches, recording a disappointing average of 57.11 and an unusually high economy rate of 9.34. During this period, he was hit for a staggering 33 sixes, struggling with his trademark speed and accuracy.
However, a subsequent two-month break after the IPL season proved instrumental in his recovery.13 Rashid has since re-emerged “better than ever,” showcasing that his talent and determination continue to shine through, not just with his world-class bowling but also with his increasingly potent batting.
