Germany : Ankita Dhyani delivered a remarkable performance at the 2025 World University Games in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, by winning the silver medal in the women’s 3000m steeplechase. In a race where she stayed among the top contenders throughout, Ankita unleashed an impressive final lap sprint to finish in 9:31.99, smashing her previous personal best by nearly seven seconds. This outstanding time was just 0.13 seconds shy of the gold medalist Ilona Mononen of Finland, who finished in 9:31.86. Ankita’s achievement marked India’s first-ever medal in the steeplechase event at the Games, highlighting her rapid progression in this discipline since taking it up late last year after competing in the 5000m at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Ankita’s silver adds to India’s strong medal haul at the 2025 World University Games, where the country finished with a total of 12 medals across various sports, including two golds, five silvers, and five bronzes. Her success, alongside other Indian athletes excelling in archery, relay races, and racewalking, underscores the growing prominence of Indian athletes on the global university sports stage. This performance not only boosts her athletic profile but also inspires a new generation of Indian steeplechasers aiming to shine internationally.
