Yogyakarta (Indonesia) : India kicked off their campaign at the 2024 Badminton Asia Junior Mixed Team Championships in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, with a resounding 5-0 win over Sri Lanka in their Group D opener on July 18. The Indian contingent displayed a dominant performance, not dropping a single game across the five-match tie, signaling a strong intent to contend for the title.
From the opening match, India took control with the mixed doubles pair of Avinash Singh and Srutika Sreeram setting the tone early. The duo defeated Sri Lanka’s Vinuda Dilshan and Chathurangi Silva in straight games (21-10, 21-4), giving India a confidence-boosting start.
Following that, in the boys’ singles match, Tushar Suveer carried forward the momentum with a clean 21-15, 21-14 victory over Nadula Gamage. His aggressive net play and sharp smashes kept the Sri Lankan opponent on the back foot throughout the contest.
In girls’ singles, Khushi Choudhary was equally dominant as she dismantled her opponent, Ranithma Liyanage, in just 24 minutes with a 21-12, 21-13 scoreline.
