Los Angeles, USA – Indian long-distance runner Gulveer Singh made a significant mark at the Sunset Tour, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver level meet, on Sunday by claiming the Asian lead in the men’s 1500m event. In his maiden race over this distance, the 27-year-old clocked an impressive 3:36.58, finishing fourth in a competitive field.
This time is the third-fastest ever recorded by an Indian athlete in the 1500m. Only national record holder Jinson Johnson (3:35.24, set in 2019) and Parvej Khan (3:36.21, set in 2024) have run faster for India.
A Versatile and Record-Breaking Runner
Gulveer Singh has been a prominent figure in Indian long-distance running, holding the national records in the 3000m (7:38.26), 5000m (12:59.77), and 10,000m (27:00.22) events. His recent accolades include winning gold medals in both the 5000m and 10,000m at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships. He has also previously secured a bronze medal in the 10,000m at the 2022 Asian Games and a bronze in the 5000m at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships.
Training Ahead for Key Indian Athletes
Following this performance, Gulveer Singh is set to head to Colorado Springs, USA, for a training camp from July 15 to September 3. He will be joined by fellow Indian long-distance specialists, steeplechasers Avinash Sable and Parul Chaudhary. The Indian government has approved a sum of Rs 41.29 lakh to cover the trio’s training expenses, highlighting the support for their continued development on the international stage.
