Nupur Sheoran, the granddaughter of Captain Hawa Singh, has added another chapter to her family’s illustrious boxing history by winning gold at the 2025 World Boxing Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Competing in the women’s +80 kg category, Nupur faced Kazakhstan’s Yeldana Talipova in the final.Despite losing the opening round, she made a strong comeback, dominating the next two rounds with her footwork and precision.
Three Generations of Boxing Excellence
Nupur is the third generation in her family to achieve international acclaim in boxing.Her grandfather, Captain Hawa Singh, was India’s heavyweight champion for 11 years and the only Indian boxer with back-to-back Asian Games golds.
Her father, Sanjay Kumar Sheoran, is a former international boxer and now her coach.Her mother, Mukesh, is a former international basketball player and supports the family’s boxing academy in Bhiwani.

Early Beginnings and Inspiration
Nupur started boxing at age 12, inspired by her father and the environment at the Captain Hawa Singh Boxing Academy.She credits her father for shaping her both as an athlete and a person.The Sheoran family is now a rare example of three generations representing India in international boxing.
