Promising Indian badminton talents, Tanvi Sharma and Ayush Shetty, are making waves at the US Open Badminton Championships! Both shuttlers have continued their impressive runs in the BWF Super 300 tournament, securing dominant wins to book their spots in the semifinals.
Tanvi and Ayush Display Dominance
The 16-year-old Tanvi Sharma showcased her rising prowess by defeating higher-ranked Malaysian, Karupathevan Letshanaa, in straight games. She won decisively with a score of 21-13, 21-16 in just 33 minutes, demonstrating remarkable control and skill.
Not to be outdone, Ayush Shetty delivered an equally clinical performance. He overcame junior world champion Kuo Kuan Lin of Chinese Taipei with a 22-20, 21-9 victory, confidently securing his place in the final four.
Men’s Doubles Face Setback
Unfortunately, India did face a setback in the men’s doubles category. The pair of Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi were defeated in their quarterfinal match at the Mid-America Centre on Friday, losing 9-21, 19-21 to Chiang Chien and Wei Wu Hsuan-yi of Chinese Taipei.
What’s Next for the Young Stars?
Tanvi is set to face Ukraine’s Polina Buhrova in Saturday’s semifinal. Polina pulled off a surprise upset over the third seed, Sung Shuo-yun of Chinese Taipei, in her quarterfinal match, so Tanvi will need to be at her best. This will mark Tanvi’s maiden semifinal appearance at a BWF World Tour Super 300 event, a significant milestone in her young career.
Ayush, meanwhile, has a tough challenge ahead as he goes up against the top seed, Chou Tien-chen. Chou is a seasoned campaigner who has beaten Ayush previously at the Taipei Open. However, Ayush can draw confidence from his stellar 2025 season, which includes impressive semifinal appearances at both the Orleans Masters and the Taipei Open.
It’s an exciting time for these young Indian shuttlers as they aim for glory at the US Open!
