India’s Arya Borse and Arjun Babuta delivered a commanding performance to win the gold medal in the 10m air rifle mixed team event at the ISSF World Cup in Munich on Saturday. The Indian duo comfortably defeated China’s Zifei Wang and Lihao Sheng 17-7 in the final.
Earlier, Borse and Babuta had finished second in the qualification round with a combined score of 635.2—just 0.7 points behind the Chinese pair, who set a qualification world record with 635.9. Individually, Borse scored 317.5 while Babuta managed 317.7.
This isn’t Borse’s first podium finish in a mixed team event this year. She had previously teamed up with Rudrankksh Patil to win silver at the World Cup in Lima, Peru.
The second Indian pair in the event, Elavenil Valarivan and Ankush Jadhav, ended sixth in the qualification round with a score of 631.8 and didn’t make it to the medal matches.
Meanwhile, Norway’s Jeanette Hegg Duestad and Jon-Hermann Hegg took home the bronze after edging out the USA’s Sagen Maddalena and Peter Matthew Fiori in a close 16-14 contest.
This victory marks India’s fourth medal and second gold at the ongoing World Cup. The first gold was claimed by Suruchi Singh, while Sift Kaur Samra and Elavenil Valarivan had earlier secured bronze medals in their respective individual events.
In the 10m air pistol mixed team category, the Indian pair of Manu Bhaker and Aditya Malra finished sixth with a score of 577, while Suruchi Singh and Varun Tomar placed 10th with a total of 576.
