After 12 years at the helm of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach will officially step down and pass the baton to Kirsty Coventry in a special ceremony on June 23 at the Olympic House in Lausanne.
Bach, who became the IOC’s ninth president in 2013 during the 125th Session in Buenos Aires, served an initial eight-year term and was re-elected for a second four-year term in 2021. Earlier this year, during the 144th IOC Session in Greece, he was named honorary president for life.
Kirsty Coventry, who was elected in March 2025, will become the IOC’s 10th president.
The handover ceremony is scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. CEST (2:30 to 3:45 p.m. IST) and will be livestreamed on the IOC Media YouTube channel.
