Tokyo 2025 – Is Warholm Ready to Defend His Throne?

Tokyo, Japan : The world’s eyes will soon be on the Japan National Stadium where the 2025 World Athletics Championships will unfold from September 13 to 21. Among the stars ready to shine brightest is Norway’s Karsten Warholm, the men’s 400m hurdles world record-holder and a three-time world champion who is entering this championship with a swagger of confidence that speaks volumes.

Warholm, famed for his Olympic dominance in Tokyo 2020 where he shattered the 400m hurdles world record with an astonishing time of 45.94 seconds, is back in the form of his life. His recent performances have set the athletics world abuzz, including a stunning victory and the third-fastest ever 400m hurdles time of 46.28 seconds at the 2025 Silesia Diamond League. This marks a clear signal to his rivals: the “Maniac,” as he’s affectionately known, is not merely participating but dominating.

Adding to his credentials, Warholm has established himself as an indomitable force with three world titles in the 400m hurdles (2017, 2019, and 2023), along with multiple European championships and Diamond League victories. His strategy this season included a well-planned break to focus on training and peak performance for the World Championships.

His psychological edge is palpable. Talking recently about his preparation and mindset, Warholm exuded a blend of nervous energy and unshakable confidence, confident that he has pushed his body to a new pinnacle. The competition is fierce, with rivals like Rai Benjamin and Alison dos Santos eager to challenge him, but Warholm’s recent string of record-breaking performances and relentless training make him the athlete to beat.

The Tokyo World Championships will also be a reunion of iconic athletic rivalries, but Warholm’s blend of sheer speed, technique, and mental toughness makes spectators and fellow athletes alike watch with bated breath.

As the countdown to September begins, the question remains: Can Karsten Warholm once again deliver a historic performance on the same track where he ascended to Olympic immortality? Tokyo awaits the answer.

This article sums up Karsten Warholm’s current state and preparation for the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo 2025, drawing on recent performance highlights, his historic Olympic achievement, and his confident attitude heading into this major event.
