Presenting Duleep Trophy Tournament By The Numbers

Premier Indian red-ball domestic competition – Duleep Trophy – is set to start from August 28 onwards. North Zone take on East Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground, Bengaluru. The other quarter-final clash is between Central Zone and North East Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground B, Bengaluru.

The winner of these matches will face South Zone and West Zone respectively in the semis. The semi-finals start from September 4 onwards. Lastly, the final will be held from September 11 onwards.

India’s Test skipper Shubman Gill is set to lead North Zone. Wicketkeeper batter Dhruv Jurel will lead Central Zone. Ishan Kishan has been tasked with leading East Zone. Tilak Varma will lead South Zone with Shardul Thakur taking charge of West Zone.

Ahead of a crunch 2025 Duleep Trophy season, we present the tournament in numbers.

Highest and lowest team totals

As per ESPNcricinfo, the highest team total in the Duleep Trophy belongs to North Zone, who managed 868 versus West Zone in 1987. Meanwhile, the lowest team total is owned by North Zone and East Zone respectively. Both sides perished for 48 against South Zone in 1961 and 1969 respectively.

The major batting numbers at a glance

  • West Zone’s Wasim Jaffer holds the record for most runs, owning a tally of 2,545 at 55.32.
  • North Zone’s Raman Lamba has the highest individual score. He smashed 320 versus West Zone in 1987.
  • Anshuman Gaekwad owns the most hundreds in the tournament’s history (9). He played for West Zone.
  • With 8 tons and 13 fifties, Jaffer has the most 50-plus scores (21).
  • Lamba owns the most runs in a Duleep Trophy season (659 in 1987.
  • VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid’s 409-run stand for South Zone versus West Zone in 2001 is the highest partnership record for any wicket.

The major bowling numbers at a glance

  • Narendra Hirwani has the most wickets in Duleep Trophy (126 at 34.12).
  • Debasish Mohanty’s 10/46 versus South Zone is the best figures in an innings. He represented East Zone.
  • Mohanty also has the best match figures of 14/91 versus South Zone in 2001.
  • Hirwani’s 34 wickets at 22.38 in the 2002 Duleep Trophy is the most by any bowler in a single campaign.

  • Mohinder Amarnath has played the most Duleep Trophy games (31).
  • Central Zone’s Hanuman Singh has captained in most matches (15).
  • West Zone own the most titles (19) and have appeared in most finals (33).
  • West Zone have won the most matches (58).
