Virat Kohli is back in the nets — and he’s not training alone. Amid swirling rumours about his international future, the 36-year-old batting icon took to Instagram to share a picture alongside Gujarat Titans assistant coach Naeem Amin, thanking him for “helping out with the hit” during an indoor session in London.
The gesture from Kohli comes as he continues to prepare for the only international format he still plays — One Day Internationals — after retiring from Tests and T20Is in 2024.
Friendly Reunion in the Nets
Kohli’s post featured the pair smiling at a training facility, with Amin resharing the image on his own account, writing, “Good to see you, brother! See you soon.” Amin, who runs the Mighty Willow Academy in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and London, has also worked with other Indian stars, including Hardik Pandya.
Focus on ODIs and IPL
Since stepping away from two formats last year, Kohli’s calendar has narrowed to India’s ODI assignments and the IPL with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). His last competitive outing came in May, when he scored a match-winning 43 in the IPL final, helping RCB lift their first-ever title with a narrow win over Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad.
Long Wait for India Return
Fans will have to wait until October 19 to see Kohli back in Indian colours, when the team faces Australia in Perth. That match will be followed by ODIs in Adelaide and Sydney on October 23 and 25. Originally scheduled ODIs in Bangladesh this month were postponed to September 2026.
Rohit & Kohli: Parallel Paths
Kohli’s career trajectory continues to mirror that of Rohit Sharma, who retired from T20Is and Tests around the same time. Both players now face questions about their long-term ODI futures, particularly after extended breaks from international cricket.
