Nakło nad Notecią, Poland – India’s decathlon star Tejaswin Shankar has made a brilliant start at the 4th Wieslaw Czapiewski Memorial, a prestigious World Athletics Combined Events Tour Gold meeting in Poland. At the end of Day 1 on Saturday, July 26, 2025, Shankar leads the standings with an impressive 4292 points.
The 26-year-old Indian athlete holds a significant 155-point lead over Czechia’s Vilem Strasky (4137 points), while Switzerland’s Finley Gaio is in third place with 4102 points.
Shankar showcased his versatility across the five events of Day 1:
- 100m: He kicked off the decathlon with a Personal Best of 11.02 seconds, topping his heat.
- Long Jump: Following this, he achieved a Season Best in the long jump with a leap of 7.57m, propelling him to second place overall.
- Shot Put: A less strong performance in the shot put, with a best throw of 12.62m, saw him briefly drop to sixth position.
- High Jump: Shankar quickly recovered his lead with a superb performance in the high jump, recording a best attempt of 2.18m.
- 400m: He concluded Day 1 with another Season Best timing of 48.87 seconds in the 400m.
Tejaswin Shankar currently holds the Decathlon National Record of 7666 points, set during the 2023 Asian Games where he won a silver medal.7 His performance in Poland is a crucial step as he aims to reach the demanding qualification standard of 8550 points for the upcoming 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
