Mahabalipuram to Host Asian Surfing Championships 2025

Mahabalipuram, India– The picturesque coastal town of Mahabalipuram in India is set to become the epicenter of Asian surfing as it prepares to host the 2025 edition of the Asian Surfing Championships. Scheduled from August 3 to 12, the event will bring together surfers from 20 countries, all vying for regional glory and crucial qualification spots for major international competitions.

Surfers will compete across various Shortboard divisions, including Open Men, Open Women, Under-18 Boys, and Under-18 Girls, promising ten days of high-octane action on the waves.

A Gateway to Elite Competitions

Beyond the traditional gold, silver, bronze, and copper medals, the stakes at this year’s championships are significantly higher. The event serves as a landmark on the Asian surfing calendar, offering direct qualification berths for the 2026 Asian Games. This elevates the championship to a critical platform for athletes aiming to represent their nations at the continental multi-sport event.

Adding to the prestige, the men’s and women’s champions at Mahabalipuram will also receive direct entry into the SurfCity El Salvador ALAS Global Finals, slated for November 17–23 later this year. This direct path to a global final underscores the championship’s importance in identifying and promoting Asia’s top surfing talent on the international stage.

The hosting of this significant event in Mahabalipuram further cements India’s growing prominence in the global surfing landscape, offering local athletes a unique home advantage and inspiring the next generation of surfers across the continent.

Surfers from 20 countries will be taking part across various Shortboard divisions: Open Men, Open Women, Under-18 Bo ys, and Under-18 Girls.
