Australian teenage sprinting sensation Gout Gout made a spectacular senior international debut on Tuesday, dominating the 200 meters at the Ostrava Golden Spike event. The 17-year-old clocked an incredible 20.02 seconds, shaving two-hundredths of a second off his own national record.
In his first European race at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event in the Czech Republic, Gout delivered a “textbook” performance. He crossed the finish line a significant 0.17 seconds ahead of Cuba’s Reynier Mena, who placed second, while Britain’s Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake secured third with a time of 20.60.
Gout Gout has frequently been compared to legendary Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt due to his impressive early career. He first made headlines in December when he broke Peter Norman’s long-standing 56-year-old national record with a time of 20.04 seconds. His remarkable talent has already earned him a spot on Australia’s team for the World Championships in Tokyo this September.
