Indian shooter Sift Kaur Samra clinched the bronze medal in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions event at the ISSF World Cup in Munich on Thursday.
The 23-year-old put up a strong performance in the final, finishing with a score of 453.1. Earlier in the qualification round, she shot an impressive 592 to secure her place in the final, just behind France’s Agathe Cecile Camille Girard.
In the eight-woman final, Sift hovered around the middle of the pack after the kneeling and prone stages. But she found her rhythm in the standing position—the elimination phase—scoring a series of 10s that saw her steadily climb up the leaderboard. However, she narrowly missed out on silver, falling just 0.9 points behind Switzerland’s Emely Jaeggi. Norway’s Jeanette Hegg Duestad, a former world champion, took the gold with a dominant score of 466.9.
Meanwhile, Indian shooters in the men’s 10m air rifle event missed out on the finals. Kiran Jadhav was just 0.2 points shy of the cutoff, finishing with a score of 631.7. Umamahesh Maddineni managed to place seventh, but he was competing under Ranking Points Only (RPO) status and wasn’t eligible for medals.
In the men’s rapid fire pistol event, Anish Bhanwala had a promising start in Stage 1. He currently leads with a score of 295 and 14 inner-10s. On the other hand, Vijayveer Sidhu struggled in his third series, dropping nine points and ending the day with 284 points, placing him 39th.
