Rohit Yadav Eyes Asian Games Medal After Neeraj Chopra Exit

Rising Indian javelin thrower Rohit Yadav is determined to make the most of Neeraj Chopra’s absence at the upcoming Asian Games, admitting he cannot replace the Olympic champion but aiming to win a medal at the continental event.

Chopra has withdrawn from the Asian Games due to injury, leaving Rohit among India’s leading medal hopes in the javelin throw competition in Aichi-Nagoya, which begins on September 19.

Rohit Yadav Draws Confidence From Personal Best

Rohit, 25, endured a disappointing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this year, managing a throw of only 81.56m.

However, the Uttar Pradesh athlete responded strongly by producing a personal best of 87.68m at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meet in Bhubaneswar on August 22.

The performance has boosted Rohit Yadav’s confidence ahead of the Asian Games, where he hopes to better his personal best and challenge for a podium finish.

“I am not taking any pressure although I know people are expecting a lot from me. It is not good that Neeraj is not there but we have to accept that,” Rohit told PTI.

Neeraj Chopra Absence Adds Expectations

Neeraj Chopra’s absence has naturally increased attention on India’s other javelin throwers, but Rohit does not want to put additional pressure on himself by trying to replicate the achievements of his illustrious compatriot.

“Neeraj’s medal was 100 per cent sure but I will try fill up his place. I know I won’t be able to take his place but will try and get a podium place,” he said.

Rohit believes the best way to handle the expectations is to concentrate on his own performance rather than attempting to fill the void left by Chopra.

Rohit Yadav will enter the Asian Games with renewed confidence after his 87.68m personal best in Bhubaneswar.

The throw places him among India’s key contenders in the javelin event, and the 25-year-old is focused on delivering his best performance when it matters most.

“I will try to give my best throw to be among medal winners,” Rohit said.

With the Asian Games approaching, Rohit will look to build on his recent form and convert his personal-best performance into a medal-winning campaign in Aichi-Nagoya.
