India’s top-ranked squash player Abhay Singh clinched the Tuanku Muhriz Trophy, a USD 15,000 PSA Challenger event in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, defeating Hong Kong’s Henry Leung in a thrilling five-game final on Sunday.
The top-seeded Singh, ranked 24th in the world, overcame third seed Leung, ranked 59th, 11-7, 6-11, 3-11, 11-5, 12-10 to claim his 13th PSA Tour title in his 18th final.
Singh Survives Five-Game Battle
Singh made a strong start but Leung fought back to take the next two games and move within touching distance of the title.
The Indian responded impressively, winning the fourth game 11-5 before edging a tense decider 12-10 to seal the championship.
The victory adds another title to Singh’s growing collection and continues his strong run on the PSA Tour.
Tough Road To Malaysian Title
Singh received a first-round bye before beginning his campaign in the second round, where he defeated Malaysia’s Low Wa Sern 8-11, 11-2, 11-6, 11-2.
He then overcame another Malaysian, Md Syafiq Kamal, 11-4, 11-13, 11-5, 11-5 in the quarterfinals.
The top seed faced a third Malaysian in the semifinals, edging Ameeshenraj Chandaran 7-11, 11-9, 11-7, 7-11, 11-3 in another five-game contest.
Singh then produced another composed performance in the final to deny Leung and secure his 13th PSA Tour title.
The triumph also marked his 13th victory in 18 PSA Tour finals.
