Daniel Vettori Defends SRH Batters After Record IPL Collapse Against Gujarat Titans

Daniel Vettori Defends SRH Batters After Record IPL Collapse Against Gujarat Titans

Sunrisers Hyderabad endured one of the darkest nights in franchise history after collapsing to just 86 runs against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026.

Chasing a modest target of 169, SRH’s star-studded batting line-up completely fell apart under pressure, handing Gujarat a massive victory and registering the franchise’s biggest defeat by runs in Indian Premier League history.

The collapse came after Gujarat Titans posted 168/5, powered by impressive half-centuries from Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar.

Vettori Refuses to Blame Batting Unit

Despite the humiliating loss, SRH head coach Daniel Vettori strongly backed his batting group and described the performance as a temporary setback rather than a major concern.

Speaking after the match, Vettori admitted the team failed to get the start they needed during the chase but insisted that every side experiences difficult moments during a long tournament.

He pointed out that the target remained within reach and stressed that the batting unit had been “exceptional” throughout the season before the dramatic collapse.

The former New Zealand captain also highlighted how early wickets completely disrupted Hyderabad’s rhythm and momentum in the run chase.

Gujarat Titans Continue Dominant Run

The victory further strengthened Gujarat Titans’ impressive campaign this season as they climbed to the top section of the IPL points table.

Sai Sudharsan once again delivered with the bat, scoring a composed 61, while Washington Sundar provided crucial middle-order acceleration with a brisk half-century.

GT’s bowlers then dismantled Hyderabad’s aggressive batting lineup with disciplined pace and spin bowling, never allowing SRH to recover after the early breakthroughs.

The win also marked Gujarat’s fifth consecutive victory, underlining their growing consistency in IPL 2026.

SRH Searching for Stability Ahead of Final Stretch

Sunrisers Hyderabad entered the season with one of the most explosive batting units in the competition, but inconsistency has continued to haunt them during crucial matches.

Vettori has repeatedly defended the team’s aggressive philosophy throughout the campaign, even after earlier defeats where batting collapses proved costly.

With the tournament entering its decisive phase, SRH will now be under pressure to recover quickly and rediscover momentum before the playoff race intensifies further.
