Foden Agrees New Man City Deal Until 2030

Phil Foden has reached an agreement in principle over a new long-term contract with Manchester City, committing his future to the club until 2030.

The 25-year-old’s current deal was due to expire next summer, but the fresh four-year agreement — with an option of a further year — reflects strong faith from both player and club.

Despite a dip in form, with Foden not scoring since December, the new contract underlines City’s belief in one of their most important homegrown talents. It also signals Foden’s desire to continue his journey at the Etihad Stadium, where he has developed into a key figure over the years.

Foden recently featured as a substitute in City’s high-scoring clash against Everton, a result that left them five points behind league leaders Arsenal, though with a game in hand.

Form Dip But Long-Term Trust

Manager Pep Guardiola handed Foden his senior debut at just 17, and since then he has made 365 appearances, winning six Premier League titles, a Champions League, and two FA Cups.

However, recent performances have seen him struggle for consistency, raising questions about his role in the team and his place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the upcoming World Cup.

Tuchel had earlier indicated that Foden’s spot in the national team is not guaranteed, despite his involvement in previous camps.

Former England captain Wayne Rooney, however, believes Foden should remain a regular starter.

Rooney praised his movement and creativity, arguing that players of his quality need consistent game time rather than being rotated out after poor spells.

With competition from dynamic attackers like Jérémy Doku and Antoine Semenyo, Guardiola may be looking for more defensive balance in his selections.

Even so, the new deal makes it clear: Foden remains central to Manchester City’s long-term plans.
