Nottingham Forest Stun Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Awoniyi Double and Jesus Penalty Seal 3-1 Shock

Nottingham Forest Stun Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Stamford Bridge, Lond : onNottingham Forest delivered one of the most unexpected results of the Premier League season as they defeated Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge, leaving the hosts further mired in crisis and effectively ending their hopes of finishing in the Champions League places. Forest’s victory also moved them closer to Premier League safety with three games to play.

Forest Strike Early and Decisively

The visitors struck within two minutes when striker Taiwo Awoniyi met a well-timed cross to nod Forest into a shock lead, silencing the home crowd almost immediately.

Chelsea’s hopes of regrouping were dashed shortly after as a defensive foul on Awoniyi gave Forest a penalty, clinically converted by Igor Jesus in the 15th minute to make it 2-0.

Chelsea Struggle, Palmer Penalty Saved

Despite dominating possession, Chelsea failed to carve out meaningful chances and were dealt another blow before half-time: a penalty awarded after a clash of heads involving debutant Jesse Derry was saved by Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels when Cole Palmer stepped up.

Derry’s injury, which saw him stretchered off and taken to hospital as a precaution, only added to the Blues’ troubled afternoon.

Awoniyi Wraps It Up, Late Pedro Goal Consolation

Forest extended their lead early in the second half when Awoniyi latched onto a low cross to score his second of the game in the 52nd minute, leaving Chelsea with an uphill battle.

With the result beyond doubt, Stamford Bridge began to empty as frustration mounted. After nearly two months without a league goal, Chelsea finally found the net in stoppage time when João Pedro produced a spectacular overhead kick — but it proved little more than a consolation.

A Growing Blues Crisis

The defeat marks Chelsea’s sixth consecutive league loss, their worst sequence in league action since 1993, highlighting a campaign of mounting inconsistency and pressure on the team and interim coach.

Forest, by contrast, can now look forward with renewed optimism. Their rotation — resting key players ahead of a Europa League semi-final second leg — paid off handsomely, and the three points lift them closer to safety with momentum.
