Doug King has dismissed concerns over reported interest in Chelsea for head coach Frank Lampard, insisting Coventry City fans should not worry about the situation.

Owner backs Lampard

King praised Lampard for guiding Coventry to the Championship title and promotion to the Premier League, calling it an “incredible” achievement. He admitted speculation is inevitable in football but stressed Lampard remains happy at the club and fully committed to the project.

He added that while a big offer could arrive in the summer, it is not something the club can control at this stage.

Promotion success

Lampard led Coventry back to the top flight for the first time in over 25 years, sealing the title with a dominant win over Portsmouth. The achievement has significantly boosted his reputation as a manager after a challenging spell earlier in his career.

King highlighted how difficult it is to win promotion without financial advantages like parachute payments, making Coventry’s success even more impressive.

Premier League planning

The chairman revealed the club has already been preparing for life in the Premier League but warned against reckless spending. Instead, Coventry will focus on smart recruitment and finding value in the transfer market.

He believes spending heavily does not guarantee survival and stressed the importance of having a clear strategy.

Celebrations continue

With promotion secured, Coventry are planning celebrations, including a bus parade in early May. However, King insisted the team will remain professional in their remaining matches, including a crucial game against Wrexham, who are chasing a play-off spot.

He also thanked fans for their support, calling the achievement a shared success between the club, players and supporters.
