India Set for Early Test: Men Face Canada, Women Take on Denmark in Thomas & Uber Cup Opener

India’s campaign at the prestigious Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2026 begins with immediate challenges, as the men’s team takes on Canada while the women’s side faces hosts Denmark in their opening group-stage ties. With the world’s top badminton nations in contention, there is little room for a slow start.

The tournament, being held in Horsens, features 16 teams in each category battling through group stages before entering knockout rounds—making every early match critical.

Men look to build momentum early
India’s men’s team, still riding on the confidence of their historic 2022 triumph, will be keen to assert dominance against Canada. While the tie may appear manageable on paper, team events often throw up surprises, especially with emerging nations eager to make a mark.

Placed in a competitive group alongside heavyweights like China and Australia, India cannot afford complacency. A convincing win in the opener could set the tone for tougher encounters ahead.

Women brace for stern Danish challenge
The women’s team faces a far tougher opening assignment against Denmark. Playing against the host nation adds another layer of difficulty, with home support often tilting momentum in tightly contested matches.

Led by PV Sindhu, India’s relatively young squad will look to punch above its weight. The tie will be an early test of temperament, depth, and the ability to handle pressure on a big stage.

Why these matches matter
In a format where only the top two teams from each group advance, every tie carries significant weight. A strong start not only boosts confidence but also reduces pressure in subsequent fixtures.

For India, the message is clear—start strong, stay consistent, and build momentum. Because in tournaments like these, the road to glory often begins with how you perform on Day 1.
