Carabao Cup: Arsenal Reach First Major Cup Final in Six Years After Beating Chelsea

London: Arsenal are quietly assembling a season that could yet turn very special. On Tuesday night at the Emirates Stadium, Mikel Arteta’s side showed control and composure to edge past Chelsea 1–0 in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg, completing a 4–2 aggregate victory and booking their place in the final for the first time in six years.

There were no fireworks in a tense London derby, but Arsenal never lost their grip on the contest. Patient in possession and disciplined without the ball, they waited for the decisive moment, which arrived deep into stoppage time when former Chelsea forward Kai Havertz finished calmly after a cross from Declan Rice to finally settle the tie.

The result extended Arsenal’s unbeaten run against Chelsea to ten matches in all competitions and marked a rare semi-final success after five previous failures at this stage of the competition. It also ensured a return to Wembley Stadium, where Arsenal will face either Manchester City or Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final later this month.

Beyond this single night, the victory underlined the scale of Arsenal’s progress this season. Without a trophy since 2020, Arteta’s team currently lead the Premier League by six points, strengthening their bid to become English champions for the first time since the historic 2003–04 Invincibles season.

Their European campaign has been equally impressive. Arsenal finished top of the Champions League standings, winning all eight league-phase matches, a statement of maturity and consistency on the continental stage.

Domestic ambitions extend beyond the league and Europe. Arsenal have also progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup, keeping alive hopes of a treble, and even a possible quadruple, should their momentum continue.

It is not a season defined by noise or spectacle, but by control, belief and relentless consistency. With silverware now within reach and progress sustained across every competition, Arsenal’s quiet authority is beginning to look like something far more significant.
