Three Arsenal players have been nominated for the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Men’s Player of the Year award following the club’s Premier League title triumph.
Midfielder Declan Rice, defender Gabriel and goalkeeper David Raya are joined on the six-man shortlist by Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and Manchester City duo Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki.
The nominations reflect Arsenal’s outstanding campaign, which ended with the club lifting the Premier League trophy for the first time in 22 years.
Fernandes Emerges As Strong Contender
Fernandes heads into the awards season with strong momentum after recently winning the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award.
The Portuguese playmaker enjoyed a remarkable campaign, registering a Premier League-record 21 assists while helping Manchester United secure a third-place finish.
Historically, winners of the Football Writers’ Association award have often gone on to claim the PFA’s top individual honour.
Arsenal Trio Rewarded For Key Roles
Rice was a driving force in Arsenal’s midfield throughout the season, while Gabriel anchored one of the league’s strongest defensive units.
Raya also played a crucial role between the posts, producing a series of important performances as Arsenal ended their long wait for a league title.
The trio’s inclusion underlines the impact Mikel Arteta’s side made during a memorable campaign.
Haaland And Cherki Complete Shortlist
Manchester City’s Erling Haaland earned another nomination after finishing as the Premier League’s top scorer with 27 goals.
Meanwhile, French playmaker Rayan Cherki enjoyed an impressive debut season in England, quickly establishing himself as one of the league’s most exciting creative talents.
Last year’s award was won by Mohamed Salah after helping Liverpool secure the Premier League title.
Cherki Also Nominated For Young Player Award
Cherki is also in contention for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
The Manchester City midfielder is shortlisted alongside teammate Nico O’Reilly, who recently won the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.
Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo, Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi, Arsenal youngster Max Dowman and Liverpool prospect Rio Ngumoha complete the six-player shortlist.
Cherki contributed four goals and 12 assists during his first Premier League season, while Kroupi scored 13 goals in 33 appearances in an impressive debut campaign.
Winners To Be Announced In August
The winners of both awards will be revealed at the 53rd annual PFA Awards ceremony, which will take place in Manchester on 25 August.
