VHT Round 4: Sarfaraz’s 157, Odisha Upset and 400+ Totals Mark Explosive Year-End Day

The Vijay Hazare Trophy served up a dramatic end to the year on December 31, with record-breaking totals, surprise results and dominant bowling performances across venues. From Sarfaraz Khan’s explosive century for Mumbai to Odisha’s stunning win over Delhi, India’s domestic circuit produced a day of non-stop action.

Mumbai Smash Records as Sarfaraz Khan Unleashes a Historic 157

Mumbai produced one of the most destructive batting performances in Vijay Hazare Trophy history, piling up a staggering 444/8 against Goa. The innings was headlined by Sarfaraz Khan, who went into overdrive with a breathtaking 157 off just 75 balls, bringing up his century in only 56 deliveries. His knock featured 14 sixes and nine fours.
Musheer Khan (60) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (46) provided solid support as Mumbai set an imposing target. Goa responded bravely through Abhinav Tejrana’s 100 and Deepraj Gaonkar’s 70, but Shardul Thakur’s 3/20 ensured Mumbai completed a dominant win.

Odisha Hand Delhi First Defeat in Alur Upset

Odisha produced one of the shocks of the tournament by defeating a strong Delhi side in Alur. Batting first, Odisha posted a competitive 272/8, with Biplab Samantray top-scoring with 72.

Delhi’s chase faltered despite the presence of Rishabh Pant, who made 24 off 28 balls, as the middle order collapsed under pressure. Debabrata Pradhan (3/28) and Sambit Baral (3/34) led the bowling charge to bowl Delhi out for 193.

Odisha 272/8 (50 overs) beat Delhi 193 all out (42.3 overs) by 79 runs

Krunal Pandya’s Blitz Powers Baroda Past 400 Against Hyderabad

Baroda showcased their batting firepower as Krunal Pandya smashed an unbeaten 109 off 63 balls, guiding his side to a massive 417/4. Pandya dominated the middle overs, ensuring Baroda crossed the 400-run mark.

Hyderabad responded with intent and crossed 380, but the asking rate proved too steep in the closing stages as Baroda held firm to seal victory.

Bengal’s Pace Trio Destroys Jammu & Kashmir in Clinical Rout

Bengal’s international-quality pace attack delivered a ruthless performance as Jammu & Kashmir were skittled for just 63 in 20.4 overs. Mohammed Shami (2/14) struck early, while Mukesh Kumar (4/16) and Akash Deep (4/32) completed the demolition.
The chase was a mere formality, with Bengal reaching the target comfortably.

Agarwal and Padikkal’s 228-Run Stand Powers Karnataka to Comfortable Win

Karnataka asserted their dominance with a commanding 67-run victory over Puducherry, built on a mammoth 228-run opening stand. Captain Mayank Agarwal struck a classy 132 off 124 balls, while Devdutt Padikkal followed with 113, his third century in four matches.
Puducherry fought hard but fell short of the imposing total.

Karnataka 363/4 (50 overs) beat Puducherry 296 (50 overs) by 67 runs

Aryan Juyal and Rinku Singh Seal UP Win via VJD Method

In a rain-affected contest, Uttar Pradesh sealed victory over Assam via the VJD method. Aryan Juyal played a superb unbeaten knock of 150 off 140 balls, anchoring the chase after interruptions.
Rinku Singh added late fireworks with 37 off 15 balls, keeping UP comfortably ahead of the par score. Assam’s resistance was led by Sumit Ghadigaonkar’s 101.

Uttar Pradesh 291/2 (42 overs) beat Assam 308 all out (50 overs) by 58 runs (VJD method)

Ruturaj Gaikwad Anchors Maharashtra’s Commanding Victory

Maharashtra captain Ruturaj Gaikwad delivered a composed innings of 124 off 113 balls against Uttarakhand, laying the foundation for a strong total of 331/7. Satyajeet Bachhav contributed with both bat and ball, scoring a half-century and taking 3/22.
Uttarakhand were unable to match the required rate and were bowled out for 202.

Maharashtra 331/7 (50 overs) beat Uttarakhand 202 (46.1 overs) by 129 runs
