Mullanpur— In a dramatic and bewildering moment during the second T20I between India and South Africa, Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh delivered one of the most unusual overs in international cricket — and it left India head coach Gautam Gambhir visibly furious.
The incident occurred in the 11th over of South Africa’s innings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. After being hit for a six by Quinton de Kock on the first ball, Arshdeep struggled to find the right line — sending down an astonishing seven wides while trying to defend.
Instead of the standard six-ball over, this became a 13-ball marathon, with the left-arm seamer leaking 18 runs in total.
What made the over even more remarkable was that Arshdeep equalled a rare T20I record set by Afghanistan’s Naveen-ul-Haq — for bowling the most deliveries in a single over by a bowler from a full-member nation. In doing so, he also became the first full-member bowler to bowl seven wides in one over.
Cameras captured Gautam Gambhir’s frustration as the overs dragged on, with the head coach’s reactions quickly going viral on social media. Photos and videos showed a visibly upset Gambhir as Arshdeep continued to struggle — underscoring just how unusual the over had become.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav had elected to bowl first after winning the toss, with the hosts already holding a 1–0 lead in the five-match series following a commanding win in the opening game.
In a match filled with tension and dramatic moments, Arshdeep’s 13-ball over — and Gambhir’s reaction — stood out as the most talked-about incident of the day.
