Saturnin Yaméogo: The Rising Power Pedaling Burkina Faso Into a New Cycling Era

A New Star Emerges Behind the Yellow Jersey

The spotlight of the 36th Tour du Faso 2025 understandably shone on overall winner Paul Daumont. But behind him, building the foundation of that victory with grit and intelligence, rode another Burkinabe cycling revelation: Saturnin Yaméogo.
Fourth in the points classification and one of the early protagonists of the race, the AJCK rider proved to be far more than a teammate—he was the race’s silent force.

Already fifth in the Tour of Cameroon and winner of the opening stage of the Tour of Togo earlier this year, Yaméogo arrived at the Tour du Faso in top form. But in this race, he chose loyalty over personal ambition, dedicating himself to defending his leader’s yellow jersey with a maturity far beyond his years.

The Lieutenant With the Heart of a Leader

Quiet off the bike but fiercely strategic on it, Yaméogo carried out one mission relentlessly: protect Daumont at all costs.
He shut down attacks, chased breakaways, controlled tempo, and still found the stamina to contest bonus sprints when it mattered.

“I did my job to keep the jersey. I stay behind Paul to protect him if there’s an attack. Our hope was to keep the jersey until the end,” Yaméogo said after another day of selfless effort.

Such discipline and teamwork are rare qualities in emerging African cyclists, who often chase individual glory early in their careers. Yaméogo, instead, chose to be the pillar of the national team.

Praise From the Champion and the Coach

For yellow jersey winner Paul Daumont, Yaméogo is much more than a teammate—he is the future.

“Saturnin is incredibly promising. I’m very proud of him,” Daumont said. “With his determination, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him win the Tour du Faso one day.”

National coach Jérémie Ouédraogo echoed this confidence, highlighting Yaméogo’s rapid rise across African competitions—from Cameroon to Mali and now the Tour du Faso.
“He confirmed his talent here by playing a major role. He has a very bright future,” the coach affirmed. His advice: more work, more discipline, and the next Tours will be his to conquer.

Burkina Faso’s Golden Duo—and a Bright Road Ahead

In Yaméogo and Daumont, Burkina Faso now has a powerful one-two punch:

  • Daumont, the explosive puncher-climber

  • Yaméogo, the relentless fighter-finisher

Together they led the charge, one taking the yellow jersey and the other cementing himself as the revelation of the 2025 edition.

Saturnin Yaméogo didn’t win the Tour du Faso—but he won something bigger: the admiration of fans, the respect of teammates, and a place in the future of African cycling.

A new name is rising in the peloton—one that already feels destined for greatness.
