British Doubles Rise Led by World’s Best

Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool have become the leading force in men’s doubles after a standout first full year together. The British pair won Wimbledon, collected seven titles and finished as the year-end world number one team. Their only mismatch came in their off-season plans, with Glasspool hosting a celebratory dinner in London while Cash leaves for a pre-booked holiday in Tenerife. Their light-hearted exchanges reflect the chemistry that has driven their success.

British Depth at an All-Time High
Their rise has pushed Britain to the top of men’s doubles. Five British players are ranked inside the world’s top 10, and all reached the semi-finals of the ATP Finals. Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski finished runners-up, while Henry Patten won the title with Finland’s Harri Heliovaara. Each of the five has a Grand Slam trophy, continuing a streak of British doubles success across the past six seasons.

Cayer’s Influence Shapes the System
Much of this development is tied to coach Louis Cayer, whose arrival at the Lawn Tennis Association in 2007 transformed Britain’s doubles culture. Known for his detail-driven approach, video work and direct communication, Cayer helped Jamie Murray reach world number one and continues to guide the current group. Players highlight his structure, discipline and mental clarity as key components of Britain’s progress.

Path to the Top for Cash and Glasspool
Cash and Glasspool teamed up midway through 2024 and quickly found momentum. They lifted trophies in Brisbane and Doha, then became the first all-British champions at Queen’s in the Open era. Their biggest breakthrough arrived at Wimbledon, where they became the first British duo in 89 years to win the men’s doubles crown. Those victories convinced them they could consistently beat top teams.

Setting New Goals After a Landmark Year
By the time they arrived at the ATP Finals, the pair had already secured their spot and added a seventh title in Vienna. Both players earned around £1.7m in prize money during the season, including their Wimbledon share. After a long campaign, they plan to switch off before returning to training in early December at the National Tennis Centre. The next step is reviewing 2025 and setting new targets for the upcoming season.
