Jemimah Rodrigues Leads India to Historic Victory Over Australia in Women’s World Cup Semi-Final

“Jemimah Rodrigues’ unbeaten 127 and Harmanpreet Kaur’s 89 power India to the highest successful chase in a World Cup knockout, ending Australia’s reign and setting up a thrilling final against South Africa.”

Mumbai: In a breathtaking semi-final clash of the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, India scripted history by defeating defending champions Australia by five wickets. The star of the day was none other than local Mumbai hero Jemimah Rodrigues, who remained unbeaten on a scintillating 127 to guide India to a memorable victory.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur provided solid support with 89 runs, while contributions from Deepti Sharma (24), Richa Ghosh (26), and Amanjot Kaur, who struck the winning runs with a confident 15, ensured India chased down a massive target.

The match will be remembered as one of the greatest World Cup chases across men’s and women’s cricket, with India defying the odds to overhaul Australia’s formidable total of 338. The crowd at Navi Mumbai witnessed a dramatic and nail-biting contest, culminating in emotional celebrations as tears of joy streamed down the faces of Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues.

Australia, who had last tasted ODI World Cup defeat against India in 2017, seemed poised to continue their dominance. Phoebe Litchfield’s 119, Ellyse Perry’s 77, and Ashleigh Gardner’s 63 had set a daunting target. Yet, India’s bowlers, led by Deepti Sharma, fought hard to restrict them to 338 after a valiant final over.

Australia will rue missed chances, especially dropping Rodrigues early in her innings, which proved costly. The victory not only ended Australia’s impressive streak but also set up a thrilling final on Sunday, 2nd November, where India will face South Africa for the coveted World Cup trophy.
The Indian team’s fearless chase and team effort have captured the hearts of fans nationwide, proving once again that on the biggest stage, Indian women’s cricket rises to the occasion.
