England forward Michelle Agyemang has confirmed she will miss the rest of the season after rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during England’s 3-0 win over Australia.

The 19-year-old, who was one of the standout players in England’s Women’s Euro 2025 triumph, was carried off on a stretcher after suffering a non-contact knee injury. Agyemang had only been on the pitch for 13 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute.

Emotional message after injury
Agyemang shared the news on Instagram, expressing her disappointment but vowing to return stronger. “Disappointed that results show a torn ACL,” she wrote. “I am so grateful for all the kind words and support from everyone. Recovery starts now, I will be back stronger than before.”

Joint recovery plan by clubs
Brighton & Hove Albion, where Agyemang is currently on loan from Arsenal, said both clubs will collaborate closely on her rehabilitation. The programme will also involve support from the Football Association and the England medical team.

“Everyone at Albion sends all their support to Michelle as she begins her recovery, with her wellbeing foremost in all of our minds,” the club said in a statement.

Breakout year for the young star
Agyemang played a crucial role in England’s Euro 2025 campaign, scoring off the bench in the quarter-final against Sweden and again in the semi-final win over Italy. Her performances earned her a nomination for the prestigious Kopa Trophy, awarded to the world’s best under-21 women’s player.

Before the injury, Agyemang had started five of Brighton’s six Women’s Super League matches this season, continuing her impressive development at both club and international level.
