India’s Smriti Mandhana made history on Sunday, October 12, in a crucial ICC Women’s World Cup clash against Australia in Vizag. The star opener struck a superb 80-run knock after India were asked to bat. India ended up scoring 330 runs with 155 being added between Mandhana and Pratika Rawal upfront.

One massive milestone achieved by Mandhana was that she surpassed 5000 runs in WODIs and also became the fastest to do so (by innings).

A stunning knock from Mandhana

Mandhana and fellow opener Rawal shared their 6th century-plus stand in WODIs. The two laid the foundation with a massive 155-run opening stand. Mandhana led the charge with a knock of 80 runs from 66 balls, hitting nine 4s and three sixes. After failing in the first three games of the 2025 World Cup, Mandhana bounced back in style. She was dismissed by Sophie Molineux in the 25th over. Notably, this was her 5th successive 50-plus score versus AUS-W in ODIs.

New Zealand’s Suzie Bates is next on this list, having taken 136 innings. Next up is India legend Mithali Raj (144 innings), and England’s Charlotte Edwards (156 innings).

Meanwhile, Mandhana is also the youngest to get to 5000 runs in terms of balls faced (5569), as per Cricbuzz.
