Parth, Himanshu, 6 others cross world U20 marks at National Junior Athletics

Bhubaneswar : Saturday at Kalinga Stadium belonged to India’s rising stars. Jharkhand’s Parth Singh, U20 men’s 100m champion, claimed gold in the long jump with a personal best of 7.82m, breaking the 2019 meet record of 7.79m and comfortably meeting the World U20 qualifying mark of 7.58m.

Speaking about his achievement and the upcoming World U20 Championships in Oregon, USA, in 2026, the Jharkhand college athlete, who is currently based in Taiwan, said, “I’m satisfied with my performance in Bhubaneswar. Hope to continue to do better next season.”

Haryana’s Asian Youth Champion Himanshu also impressed in the boys U18 javelin throw, crossing the 80m mark to win gold with a best throw of 80.38m. This was an improvement over his qualification round throw of 79.96m on Friday. With the World U20 qualification mark standing at 68.50m, Himanshu has booked his ticket to Oregon. “I was confident of crossing the 80m mark in the final. I’m happy to have achieved my goal,” he said.

Track events saw top performances as well, with the leading finishers in the men’s U20 400m race achieving the World U20 qualification time of 47.40 seconds. Similarly, the U20 women’s 400m medalists recorded times within the World U20 qualifying mark of 55.20 seconds.
