Day 1 Showcases Thrilling Sprints, Field Events, and Multi-Discipline Contests for Young Athletes

40th National Junior Athletics Championships 2025 Kicks Off in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The 40th National Junior Athletics Championships 2025 commenced today, October 10, at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. This prestigious event, organized by the Government of Odisha and the Odisha Athletics Association, runs until October 14 and features a diverse array of competitions across various age groups and disciplines.

Morning Session Highlights

5000m Finals (U-20 Men & Women): The day began with the men’s and women’s 5000m finals, showcasing endurance and speed.

Decathlon & Heptathlon Events: The decathlon for U-20 men and heptathlon for U-18 women featured events like the 100m, long jump, and shot put, testing the athletes’ versatility.

Field Events: Competitions in javelin throw (700g for U-18 men), high jump (scissor style for U-16 girls), and shot put (4kg standing for U-16 boys) were held, highlighting the strength and technique of the participants.

Sprints: The 100m heats for U-18 women and men were conducted, setting the stage for the upcoming semi-finals and finals.

Afternoon Session Highlights

100m Semi-Finals & Finals: The semi-finals and finals for the 100m races in U-18 and U-20 categories are yet to be held, with athletes vying for top honours.

Triathlon Events: The girls’ and boys’ U-14 triathlon events will feature a combination of 60m sprints, long jumps, and shot put, testing the all-around abilities of the young athletes.

Field Events: The javelin throw (500g for U-18 women), high jump (scissor style for U-16 boys), and shot put (3kg standing for U-16 girls) finals are scheduled to be held, showcasing the technical prowess of the competitors.

Decathlon & Heptathlon Events: The decathlon will continue with events like the 100m and long jump, while the heptathlon will feature the 60m hurdles and high jump, challenging the athletes’ agility and strength.

Medal Events

The day will conclude with several medal events, including the 100m finals for U-18 and U-20 categories, the 60m finals for U-16 girls and boys, and the 1500m finals for U-20 women.

These events will culminate the day’s competitions, with athletes striving to achieve personal bests and secure podium finishes.
