World Championships bronze medallist Mohammad Husamuddin of Services underlined his class with a commanding start at the inaugural BFI Cup Elite Men’s Boxing Championship here on Friday. The seasoned boxer outclassed Harsh (Services) with a dominant 5:0 verdict to move into the next round.
Women’s bouts highlight young talent
The Elite Women’s competition also produced notable results. Railways’ Bhawna Sharma, a U-22 Asian bronze medallist, fought hard to secure a 3:2 split decision win over Haryana’s Simran in the 48-51kg category. In another impressive outing, Rajasthan’s Parthvi Grehwal registered an emphatic RSC (Referee Stopped Contest) victory, underlining her growing reputation in the domestic circuit.
A platform for emerging boxers
The BFI Cup 2025, being held in Chennai from October 1-7, is providing both established stars and upcoming boxers a crucial platform. Gold and silver medallists from the tournament will gain entry into the Elite National Camp, making the event a key step in India’s boxing pathway.
The competition has attracted boxers from State units and boards that finished in the Top 8 at the Elite Nationals, along with entries from SAI NCOE, Tamil Nadu, and medal winners from recent international and national tournaments.
With strong performances from both men and women, the opening rounds have set the stage for an intense week of action at the inaugural edition of the BFI Cup.
