Indian women’s football team head coach Crispin Chettri on Friday confirmed that monthly preparatory camps will begin from October in the run-up to next year’s AFC Women’s Asian Cup. He also assured that the camps will not overlap with the Indian Women’s League (IWL), ensuring players can feature in both.
Camps planned with long-term focus
Chettri said the plan has been carefully drawn after consultations with players, club coaches, and the All India Football Federation (AIFF). “We’ll be hosting regular monthly camps starting October, and from January there will be an extended camp before the main tournament,” he said during a press conference in Bengaluru.
U20 and senior teams gearing up
Both the senior women’s team and the U20 side have already secured qualification for their respective continental tournaments, scheduled for July and August next year. The upcoming camps are aimed at fine-tuning preparations and building squad depth well in advance.
No clash with IWL commitments
Addressing concerns about players being unavailable for their clubs, Chettri clarified that the camp calendar has been aligned to avoid clashes with the IWL. “We wanted to ensure players get competitive match time in the league as well as structured training with the national team. The federation has taken steps to balance both,” he explained.
