Elavenil Valarivan Clinches Gold in Women’s 10m Air Rifle at 2025 Asian Shooting Championships

Shymkent, Kazakhstan : Indian shooter Elavenil Valarivan clinched the gold medal in the women’s 10m air rifle event at the 16th Asian Shooting Championships in Shymkent, Kazakhstan. Valarivan delivered a stellar performance in the final, scoring 253.6 to secure the top podium spot. This victory adds to her impressive track record, marking her second individual Asian Championship gold since her first win in 2019.

Starting the final ranked eighth after qualifying with a score of 630.7, Valarivan maintained remarkable consistency, shooting mostly above 10.5 in the finale, never dropping below 10.0. Her focused performance outpaced rivals, notably the Korean shooter Eunji, who faltered on the last shot. The Indian team, including Mehuli Ghosh and Ananya Naidu, also secured a bronze in the 10m air rifle team event.

India continued its strong showing at the championship with multiple medals across events. The men’s 10m air rifle team—Rudrankksh Patil, Arjun Babuta, and Kiran Jadhav—clinched gold, while Manu Bhaker added bronze medals in women’s 10m air pistol individual and team events. With a total of 10 medals, India stood second only to China in the senior events tally.

The 2025 Asian Shooting Championships, held from August 16 to 30 at the Shymkent Shooting Plaza, featured 27 countries competing across 120 events, showcasing the rising talent and fierce competition in the continent. Valarivan’s gold is a proud moment for India’s shooting sports as the nation continues to shine on the international stage.

This championship not only highlights emerging stars but also sets the stage for upcoming major events including the Asian Games and ISSF World Championships.

Elavenil Valarivan’s gold adds another glorious chapter to India’s rich shooting legacy, promising exciting times ahead for the nation’s shooting sports.
