Neeru Dhanda Named India’s Women’s Flag Bearer
Ace trap shooter Neeru Dhanda has been named the women’s flag bearer for India at the Asian Games closing ceremony on Sunday, following an outstanding campaign in Nagoya that yielded two gold medals and a silver.
The 27-year-old will return to Nagoya on Saturday morning after travelling back to India following her third medal win. She will lead the Indian contingent at the closing ceremony, while the decision on the male flag bearer is expected later.
Neeru Dhanda’s Three-Medal Asian Games Campaign
Neeru enjoyed a memorable outing at the continental event, beginning with gold in the women’s individual trap competition.
She then teamed up with Manisha Keer and Aashima Ahlawat to secure silver in the women’s trap team event, adding another medal to her tally.
Her third medal came in the trap mixed team event, where she partnered Kynan Chenai to win gold on the penultimate day of the shooting competition.
The two gold medals and a silver made Neeru one of India’s standout performers at the Games.
Anjali Bhagwat Confirms Flag Bearer Selection
Deputy chef de mission Anjali Bhagwat confirmed Neeru’s selection on Friday.
“She is returning to Nagoya tomorrow morning to be the woman flag bearer. The decision on the male flag bearer will be taken tomorrow,” Bhagwat said.
Neeru’s Asian Games success followed another significant achievement earlier this year, when she won the women’s trap gold at the ISSF World Cup in Lonato.
Her selection as flag bearer adds another milestone to a successful campaign for the Indian shooter.
