Fresh off rewriting the world record books, Dutch swimming sensation Marrit Steenbergen continued her stunning run of form by delivering another blistering performance at the Dutch Swimming Championships, narrowly missing her own women’s 100m freestyle world record.
The reigning world champion stormed to victory in 51.82 seconds, the second-fastest swim of her career and just 0.14 seconds outside the world record of 51.68 she set recently at the Sette Colli Trophy. It also marked her fourth sub-52-second performance of the 2026 season, underlining her remarkable consistency ahead of the international campaign.
Steenbergen was in complete control throughout the race, showcasing her trademark speed and composure to comfortably secure another national crown while reinforcing her status as the world’s premier female freestyle sprinter.
Sean Niewold Continues Golden Run
In the men’s competition, Sean Niewold added another Dutch title to his growing collection by winning the 100m freestyle in 48.50 seconds. Niewold once again proved his sprint credentials with a commanding display, finishing comfortably ahead of the field to maintain his dominance at the championships.
Momentum Builds Ahead of Major Meets
Steenbergen’s latest performance suggests her world-record swim was no one-off. With multiple sub-52-second outings already this season, the Dutch ace appears to be peaking at the perfect time as she targets further success on the international stage.
Meanwhile, Niewold’s continued success in the sprint events provides another boost for Dutch swimming as the country builds momentum ahead of the season’s major global competitions.
