The Indian Women’s Deaf Cricket Team is all set to script history as it embarks on its first-ever international tour, travelling to Sri Lanka for a five-match T20 series from July 7 to 13. The tour marks a significant milestone for deaf cricket in India and represents a major step forward in promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities in the sport.
The historic series will be played at the De Soysa Park International Cricket Stadium in Moratuwa, where the Indian side will take on Sri Lanka in five T20 internationals. Ahead of the tour, the team unveiled its official jersey in New Delhi in the presence of senior officials from the Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA), cricket administrators and government dignitaries, reflecting the growing recognition for differently-abled athletes.
Leading the 15-member squad is wicketkeeper-captain Kajal Dhawan, while Needa Zabi Shaikh has been named vice-captain. Dhawan described the tour as more than just a cricket series, saying it is an opportunity to inspire countless young girls and prove that hearing impairment is no barrier to representing the country at the highest level.
The Indian Deaf Cricket Association believes the tour will pave the way for greater opportunities for women in deaf cricket and strengthen the pathway for future generations. With the players ready to don the national colours on the international stage for the first time, the series promises to be a defining moment in the growth of inclusive cricket in India.
