Kidambi Srikanth’s China Masters Run Ends
Former world No.1 Kidambi Srikanth’s China Masters Super 750 campaign came to an end in the quarterfinals on Friday as Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu defeated the Indian in straight games.
The 33-year-old Srikanth, who had shown glimpses of his vintage form while finishing runner-up at the US Open Super 300 earlier this year, went down 16-21, 16-21 to the world No.25 in a 39-minute contest.
Srikanth Struggles To Find Rhythm
Srikanth had looked sharp in the previous round, beating world No.9 Victor Lai of Canada 21-18, 21-19 in the Round of 16.
However, against Lee Cheuk, the Indian was forced to chase the game for long periods, particularly after losing momentum midway through the opening game.
Srikanth made a quick start, racing to a 3-0 lead, but Lee Cheuk immediately settled into his rhythm.
The Hong Kong shuttler reeled off three successive points to level at 3-3 before producing a six-point burst that gave him a commanding 14-6 advantage.
Srikanth attempted to reduce the deficit but could not close the gap as Lee Cheuk remained composed to take the opening game.

Lee Cheuk Seals Straight-Game Win
The second game was considerably more competitive, with Srikanth once again making an aggressive start to move 4-0 ahead.
Lee Cheuk responded quickly, drawing level at 4-4 before the contest developed into a closely fought battle.
The lead changed hands several times as both players traded points, eventually reaching 15-15.
Just when Srikanth appeared to be within reach of forcing a decider, Lee Cheuk raised his level.
He won three consecutive points to move 18-15 ahead and then produced another three-point burst to close out the match 21-16.
The defeat ended Srikanth’s run in China, while Lee Cheuk advanced to the semifinals.
Lee Cheuk Faces Popov Next
Lee Cheuk, 30, will next face world No.2 Christo Popov of France in the last four.
The Hong Kong shuttler has enjoyed some notable results this season, including a standout performance at the Singapore Open in May, where he recovered from a difficult position to defeat All England champion Lin Chun-yi.
