Axar Patel etched his name into the record books by becoming the first Indian spinner to take 100 wickets in T20 Internationals during the second T20I against England at Old Trafford in Manchester. The milestone further underlines the all-rounder’s remarkable consistency in the shortest format and cements his place among India’s most dependable white-ball bowlers.
The historic moment came when Axar dismissed England captain Harry Brook, who had raced to a quickfire 39 off just 15 deliveries while chasing India’s challenging total. The breakthrough gave Axar his 100th T20I wicket, making him the fourth Indian bowler overall to achieve the feat and the first specialist spinner from the country to reach the landmark.
Since making his T20I debut in 2015, Axar has evolved into one of India’s most reliable performers. His ability to deliver economical spells, strike at crucial moments and contribute valuable runs lower down the order has made him an indispensable member of the national side across global tournaments and bilateral series.
Although India eventually suffered a four-wicket defeat as England levelled the five-match series, Axar’s milestone provided a significant personal highlight on an otherwise disappointing evening. His achievement reflects years of sustained excellence and reinforces his reputation as one of the finest left-arm spinners in modern T20 cricket.
With plenty of cricket still ahead, the 31-year-old will now aim to add further wickets to his tally while continuing to play a key role in India’s quest for success in the shortest format.
