Goa Set to Welcome 350 Players from 16 Nations for 5th Asia Cup Bridge Championship

Goa is gearing up to host one of Asia’s most prestigious mind sports events, the 5th Asia Cup Bridge Championship, which will bring together nearly 350 players from 16 countries across the Asia-Oceania region from June 21 to 27. The week-long championship will be staged at the Taj Cidade de Goa Horizon, marking the second time that India hosts the quadrennial tournament.

Organised by the Bridge Federation of India (BFI), the championship will feature elite competition in men’s, women’s, mixed and senior categories, along with pairs events. Participating nations include Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Bangladesh, the UAE and host nation India, among others.

India will field strong ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams across all categories, reflecting the country’s growing stature in international bridge. The host contingent includes several accomplished players and Asian Games medallists, such as Sumit Mukherjee, Rajeshwar Tiwari, Kiran Nadar, Sayantan Kushari, Anil Padhye and Sagnik Roy. The women’s squad will feature experienced campaigners including Monica Jajoo, Pooja Batra and Himani Khandelwal.

BFI officials expressed confidence in the Indian teams, highlighting the blend of seasoned veterans and emerging talent. India has enjoyed considerable success in the tournament’s history, collecting 20 medals across the previous four editions, including eight gold medals.

Beyond the competition, the event is expected to strengthen India’s reputation as a leading destination for intellectual sports while showcasing Goa as a premier venue for international sporting events. A special “Friendship Pairs” event on the concluding day will further promote camaraderie among participants from across the continent.

With some of Asia’s sharpest bridge minds set to converge in Goa, the championship promises a week of intense competition, strategic brilliance and international sporting fellowship.
