Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur will miss Saturday’s qualifying session at the Monaco Grand Prix after undergoing medical checks and remaining under observation at a local medical facility.
The Italian team confirmed the development in a brief statement but did not provide further details regarding the nature of the medical issue.
Ferrari expressed hope that Vasseur would return to the circuit soon as the team prepares for one of its most promising weekends of the 2026 Formula One season.
Ferrari Enjoy Strong Start In Monaco
Vasseur’s absence comes at a crucial moment for Ferrari, who have shown impressive pace throughout practice at the iconic street circuit.
Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc finished first and second respectively in both Friday practice sessions, giving Ferrari a strong chance of challenging for pole position.
The Scuderia have been searching for their first Grand Prix victory since October 2024 and Monaco could provide their best opportunity yet to end that drought.
Qualifying Expected To Be Decisive
Speaking before Saturday’s qualifying session, Vasseur highlighted the challenges teams have faced around the tight Monaco circuit.
He noted that increased traffic on track and tyre management would play a significant role in determining the final grid order.
With overtaking notoriously difficult in Monaco, qualifying is expected to have a major impact on the outcome of Sunday’s race.
Ferrari Also Involved In 2027 Engine Rule Debate
Away from the racetrack, Ferrari remain heavily involved in ongoing discussions regarding Formula One’s future engine regulations.
The team is currently opposing a proposed modification to the 2027 power-unit rules that would increase the contribution of internal combustion engines while reducing reliance on electrical power.
Ferrari believe the existing regulations should remain unchanged, partly because the current framework offers development opportunities for manufacturers that fall behind the leading engine suppliers.
Focus Remains On Monaco Challenge
Despite the off-track discussions and Vasseur’s unexpected absence, Ferrari’s immediate focus remains on securing a strong qualifying result in Monaco.
With Hamilton and Leclerc demonstrating excellent pace throughout practice, the team will be aiming to convert that speed into a front-row start and potentially its first Formula One victory in more than a year.
