India produced a commendable performance at the Under-23 Asian Wrestling Championships after its Greco-Roman wrestlers secured a total of five medals, highlighting the country’s growing depth in the discipline.
The Indian contingent finished the campaign with one silver and four bronze medals against some of Asia’s toughest wrestling nations, including Iran, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
Silver Medal Highlights India’s Campaign
The biggest success for India came through Nitesh in the 97kg category. The wrestler fought brilliantly throughout the tournament and reached the final after a series of impressive bouts. However, he narrowly missed out on the gold medal and settled for silver after losing the summit clash.
His run to the final was one of India’s standout performances in the championship and reflected the growing confidence of Indian Greco-Roman wrestlers at the international level.
Four Wrestlers Secure Bronze
India’s bronze medals came from multiple weight divisions, showing consistency across categories. The medal winners battled through repechage rounds and crucial classification matches to finish on the podium.
The bronze medalists displayed strong defensive technique and attacking control during the tournament, helping India register one of its better Greco-Roman performances at the U-23 level.
Positive Signs for Indian Wrestling
Traditionally, India has enjoyed greater success in freestyle wrestling, but the latest results indicate clear progress in Greco-Roman wrestling as well. The performances at the U-23 Asian Championships will boost confidence ahead of future senior international events.
The tournament also served as an important platform for young wrestlers to gain exposure against elite Asian competitors and prepare for the transition to senior-level competition.
With five medals from the Greco-Roman category, India once again demonstrated the strength of its emerging wrestling talent pool on the continental stage.
