Rohan Bopanna Hails Tennis Premier League for Boosting Sport’s Popularity in India

The veteran tennis star praised the league’s growing reach and its role in inspiring young players across the country.

Former Indian tennis ace Rohan Bopanna has praised the rapid rise of the Tennis Premier League, saying the competition has played a major role in taking tennis closer to fans and motivating youngsters to follow the sport.

Speaking about the evolution of the league, Bopanna said it was encouraging to see how the tournament has expanded over the years by travelling to different cities and attracting a larger audience.

The veteran doubles specialist, who has been associated with the league for multiple seasons, said the format has successfully brought Indian players and international stars together on one platform, creating excitement among tennis followers.

Bopanna recalled his experiences playing in Mumbai and Ahmedabad during previous editions and noted that the atmosphere around the league has improved significantly with every season.

According to the former world number one in doubles, initiatives like the Tennis Premier League are important for Indian tennis because they give younger players exposure and also allow fans to watch high-level tennis from close quarters.

The league, launched in 2018, has steadily gained popularity with participation from Indian and overseas players, while also drawing support from celebrities and former tennis greats. Over the years, it has become one of the prominent franchise-based tennis events in the country.

Bopanna added that he feels happy to continue being part of the tournament and believes the league’s growth reflects the increasing interest in tennis among Indian sports fans.
