Former Indian tennis ace Rohan Bopanna has praised the rapid rise of the Tennis Premier League, saying the competition has played a major role in taking tennis closer to fans and motivating youngsters to follow the sport.
Speaking about the evolution of the league, Bopanna said it was encouraging to see how the tournament has expanded over the years by travelling to different cities and attracting a larger audience.
The veteran doubles specialist, who has been associated with the league for multiple seasons, said the format has successfully brought Indian players and international stars together on one platform, creating excitement among tennis followers.
Bopanna recalled his experiences playing in Mumbai and Ahmedabad during previous editions and noted that the atmosphere around the league has improved significantly with every season.
According to the former world number one in doubles, initiatives like the Tennis Premier League are important for Indian tennis because they give younger players exposure and also allow fans to watch high-level tennis from close quarters.
