Indian hockey icons Sardar Singh and Rani Rampal have praised Hockey India for its long-term vision aimed at strengthening the sport across all levels.
Both former captains highlighted the importance of sustained grassroots investment, structured athlete development, and better exposure opportunities for young players.
Indian hockey has experienced a significant revival in recent years, particularly after strong Olympic performances reignited public interest in the sport. Administrators are now attempting to ensure that success becomes sustainable rather than temporary.
Sardar Singh noted that improved domestic systems and scientific training methods are helping players adapt to the demands of modern international hockey. Meanwhile, Rani Rampal emphasised the importance of nurturing young female athletes and expanding opportunities for women’s hockey.
The federation’s broader strategy includes strengthening junior competitions, enhancing coaching quality, and improving sports science integration within national camps.
Experts believe India’s biggest challenge now lies in maintaining consistency against elite nations such as the Netherlands, Australia, Belgium, and Germany.
Still, the endorsement from two of India’s most respected hockey figures reflects growing confidence that Indian hockey is moving in the right direction.
