Mansukh Mandaviya reviewed India’s preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, underlining the government’s focus on strengthening elite sports performance ahead of the multi-sport event.
The assessment reportedly included discussions around athlete conditioning, training infrastructure, international exposure, recovery systems, and medal expectations across disciplines.
India’s sporting ambitions have expanded significantly in recent years. Success in events such as the Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games has increased pressure on sports authorities to maintain consistent global performances.
Officials are particularly focused on ensuring athletes receive uninterrupted support, including access to sports science experts, physiotherapists, nutrition programmes, and international competition opportunities.
Mandaviya’s review also reflects a wider shift in India’s sports administration, where long-term planning and performance analytics are becoming increasingly important.
With Glasgow 2026 approaching, India is expected to rely heavily on traditional medal-winning disciplines such as wrestling, boxing, badminton, weightlifting, and shooting.
The government believes improved coordination between federations, coaches, and sports institutions could help India achieve one of its strongest Commonwealth Games campaigns yet.
