Rafael Nadal has firmly denied reports linking him to a possible bid for the presidency of Real Madrid.
The rumours gained momentum after current club president Florentino Perez announced that fresh elections would be held for leadership positions at the Spanish giants. Several Spanish media outlets had suggested Nadal could emerge as a potential candidate due to his lifelong connection with the club.
“These Reports Are Not True”
Nadal quickly moved to shut down the speculation through a public statement on social media.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion clarified that the reports were inaccurate and stressed that he is not involved in any presidential campaign linked to Real Madrid.
The former world No. 1 also acknowledged his close relationship with businessman Enrique Riquelme, whose name has reportedly surfaced as a possible challenger in the upcoming elections. However, Nadal reiterated that he has “enormous respect” for Perez and the current administration at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Nadal Remains Passionate Real Madrid Fan
Although he ruled out any leadership ambitions, Nadal admitted his deep emotional connection with the club remains unchanged.
The Spanish tennis legend has long been one of Real Madrid’s most famous supporters and is frequently seen attending matches at the Bernabeu. Nadal also expressed disappointment over the club’s recent struggles but described setbacks as a natural part of sport.
Focus Still Away From Football Administration
Nadal made it clear that football management is “a different world” for him and that he is not considering an executive role at this stage.
His statement effectively ended days of speculation that had spread rapidly across Spanish football and tennis communities after Perez called for fresh elections amid growing pressure following a disappointing season for Los Blancos.
