Punjab FC successfully defended their DSC AIFF Junior League title after defeating Minerva Academy FC 5-3 in a penalty shootout following a gripping 1-1 draw in regulation time at the Bambolim Athletic Stadium in Goa.
The high-pressure final once again showcased the growing quality and competitiveness of youth football in India, with both Punjab-based sides producing an intense contest from start to finish.
Jasmeet Singh Gives Punjab FC the Lead
Minerva Academy dominated possession early in the match and created several chances, but Punjab FC struck first against the run of play.
Jasmeet Singh opened the scoring in the 38th minute after calmly finishing a precise through ball from Kamlesh Chand. The goal handed Punjab FC a crucial advantage heading into halftime.
Minerva Fight Back Strongly
Minerva Academy responded quickly after the restart through Md Azam Khan, who produced an impressive solo effort in the 49th minute. After dribbling past defenders, his initial attempt was blocked, but he reacted sharply to score from the rebound.
The remainder of the match turned into an end-to-end battle, with both teams creating opportunities but failing to find a decisive winner in normal time.
Goalkeeper Augustasya Gupta Becomes Hero
The final eventually moved into penalties, where Punjab FC displayed remarkable composure.
Pawandeep Singh, Aayush Koul, Akash P, Kabyansh Rai, and Jasmeet Singh all converted their spot-kicks for Punjab FC. The decisive moment arrived when goalkeeper Augustasya Gupta saved Ramung Zimik’s penalty, shifting momentum firmly in Punjab’s favour.
Gupta’s heroics earned him the Player of the Match award, while Jasmeet Singh was named Player of the Tournament for his outstanding performances throughout the campaign.

Punjab FC’s successful title defence further highlighted the strength of youth development systems emerging in Indian football.
