Rory McIlroy has declared himself “more motivated than ever” as he prepares for his first PGA Tour appearance since winning back-to-back Masters titles earlier this year.
The world No. 2 will return to competition at the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow, a venue where he has enjoyed tremendous success throughout his career. McIlroy has won four PGA Tour titles at the North Carolina course, including victories in 2010, 2015, 2021 and 2024.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, McIlroy dismissed suggestions that his hunger may have faded following another historic Masters victory at Augusta National. The 37-year-old said his latest triumph has instead reignited his ambition to win even more major championships and continue building his legacy.
McIlroy captured his second straight Masters title in April, becoming only the fourth golfer in history to successfully defend the green jacket after legends Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods. The win also moved him to six major championships overall.
The Northern Irishman admitted that after completing the career Grand Slam in 2025, he initially struggled to rediscover motivation. However, this season feels different, with McIlroy saying he has found “another mountain to climb” as he targets more success in the sport’s biggest tournaments.
Quail Hollow represents an ideal venue for McIlroy’s return. The course has been one of his happiest hunting grounds on the PGA Tour and also serves as important preparation for next week’s PGA Championship at Aronimink.
McIlroy arrives at the Truist Championship after a short break following Augusta, during which he enjoyed downtime with family and attended high-profile events including a White House state dinner. He said the quieter post-Masters period compared to last year helped him feel refreshed heading into the next phase of the season.
With Scottie Scheffler absent from this week’s field, McIlroy enters the tournament as one of the favourites alongside rising American star Cameron Young, who has enjoyed an impressive 2026 campaign.
Golf fans will now be eager to see whether McIlroy can carry his Masters momentum into another strong run as the PGA Tour heads deeper into the major championship season.
